cool. saves me the effort.rene wrote:going to do a deviant....
how do they damage your engine? please explain
and another thing. A bike will do exactly the same speed in 1st whether it's restricted or not - it's just a question of the gearing, and for a stock ZXR it's 55-60mph.
the bikes would also be doing the same speed at the redline in top. The difference is the restricted bike wont actually ever get to the redline in top because it hasn't got enough power.

Re: Restricted
ive read the previous threads on restriction damaging engines ..
cant see it myself, the restriction washers have the same effect as only being able to open the throttle half way.. wont alter mixture, wont need re-jetting.. cant possibly do any damage. "may" soot up the plugs a bit as once restricted there's no point in revving the engine to the redline as there's no power there .. but no worse than just using the bike for commuting and pootling about on.
you're right about the gearing/power/redline stuff though.

Re: Redlining at 60 mph
hi guys
took my bike out for a blast on a local coast road last night only to find out on the way back it was redlining at 60 mph
bike has not long had restrictors put in to it by my local mike shop ( well it was where i got the bike from in the first place )
so am i going to find that my little zx400g will only go 60 mph?
so hope that is not the case
any ideas ???

Re: Restricted
You say 'red lining', so by that I assume you mean the tacho was showing 14500 rpm? If you were in top gear at those revs and only doing 60mph then one of two things is wrong -
1. Someone has changed the sprockets to give you a MUCH lower gearing.
2. Your rev counter is buggered
Roughly speaking, in top gear each 1000 revs equates to 10mph on the clocks.

Re: Restricted
hi guys
Tirpitz mate it was over the 14,500 ,it stopped at the 16,000 needle !!
if your right mate I should of been doing over 160 mph
dont think my little bike would get anywhere near to that
want to get it sorted out got a mayor run happening in less than a month all 350 miles of it
so you think i might have the wrong sized sprockets on ??
if so what size should I be running on ?
cheers for any advice on the subject

Re: Restricted
The standard sizes for H and L models are 15 front 45 rear. If you've got less than that on the front, or more on the rear, you will get lower gearing - but TBH someone would have to be taking the piss to have fitted sizes which are giving the problems you are experiencing.
More like your revcounter has gone, or maybe the pickup. If it is genuinely giving the output you are seeing (i.e. there is something wrong with the pickup) then the limiter should be kicking in. Were you finding that or was the bike still revving on when the needle had reached the stop? If it is just the revcounter which has gone then even when it has hit the end of the scale the bike should not be activating the rev limiter and should be revving on.
I would have expected the rev limiter to have kicked in before 16000 - you will tell as the bike will start stuttering as it automatically shuts off power. This suggests to me that the problem lies with the rev counter rather than the pickup. Much easier to sort
Sort out which of the two things is happening as you will then narrow down exactly what is at fault. You might be better starting a fresh thread in a more relevant section. This post is on a very old thread and some people who might be able to help may not be picking up on it.
