What end can?

Post by ChristoT »

Hello all!

I've currently got a stock can on my ZX4, and was wondering what people had fitted / what was available? I used to have a twin outlet Blueflame on my Fazer which sounded lovely, anything similar for these?

Daft question maybe, but can you fit a 600 end can to a 400cc bike?

Thanks!

anything is possible with enough time and money. You can get adapters to fit slip on cans (they come with sandybikespares downpipes) or you can get any exhaust with a 3 bolt fitment @ 72mm distance. Though i have a yoshit on my bike and had an ART racing can which got damaged vsad I LOVED that can, yoshi is a bit more aesthetically pleasing but that can did SCREAM!! It was a straighthrough pipe which was 50mm in diameter compared to the yoshi at about 35mm for the actual cheesegrater pipe. Anyway the bolt distance on that is 76mm so someone welded a new plate on my sytem and drilled it though you could always drill the existing plate which someone did on my standard downpipes. Reminds me, i need to get them painted so they dont corrode over winter

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you!

I love the Akrapovic carbon cans and the BlueFlame ones too - I was wondering whether the R6 / 600ish cans would be OK on our older 4s, what with gas flow? I don't want to create too mach backpressure, or peversely, not enough!! Making a link pipe shouldn't be too hard (I hope! biggrin ), so it's mainly the exhaust flow I'm worrying about.

The differences you get in back flow can change dramatically within one bike, I had the ART race can on mine and was running 100DJ's about 102 Keihin, swapped for the Yoshi and had to drop to DJ96's, different pressures will change how the engine power is at different rpms and under different conditions

Well, I've just bought an R6 Titanium exhaust off ebay. For £28, I couldn't really say no!

As I' on 33hp, what effect will this have on the performance? Nothing (apart from a nice sound! :smt003 ), or actually make things worse?

Cheers!

probably make it worse, you might need a bigger main jet, but this could also invalidate your 33bhp certificate...your choice...
UK ZXR400 L3 (1993) - Fully restored and on the roads, my green beast!
JPN ZXR250 A2 (1990) - Revs to 19,200rpm... 'nuff said :smt003

On a ZX-4. Even worse, I know. But I have a toolkit, and an ability to improvise! :smt003

I thought it might have been a nicer can, not the stock box! Someone on eBay has welded (badly) a bit of pipe onto stock headers to make a slip on system

I was thinking of getting a machine shop to do a proper job, or even do it myself at work. I've decided to stick with the stock ZX-4 can for the time being, so now need to shift this one.
