zxr400 1993 cdi unit

Hi im wanting to replace the cdi unit on my bike the only problem i have is my bike is a uk bike and the label in the cdi unit is blue with the letter M on it do i have to get an exact match or is there another i could look out for to replace it with as the 1 i have seems to be abit rare n currently broken thanks

Unfortunatly a cdi with an 'L' on will NOT be 'fine' it will limit the bike to 10.000rpm unless you fit an ' M Max box' or a 10k resistor. Your wiring will need slight modification to suit. Obviously a straight replacement 'M' would be ideal.

Ahhhh damn ive been offered a yellow labelled 1 with a v on it the blue label with the m seems awkward to find

rodger, he is on a UK spec bike, with mph clocks so he wont have the pink wire to the clocks...i have always been under the impression (and its also reiterated in the restrictd zxr's section) that uk bikes were not speed restricted in any way, and that the L box and M boxes are almost the same, with the M having a slightly higher redline?

No he doesn't....................UK CDIs are not restricted and Jap market CDIs are

ok, simple question, are the blue L and blue M CDi's restricted in any way?

edit: as far as i have been told there are 3 "non sp/kit" CDi's
21119-1394 - Yellow V CDi - import and speedo restricted, 14,500 rpm
21119-1331 - Blue L CDi - UK and not restricted, 14,500 rpm
21119-1332 - Blue M CDi - UK and not restricted, 14,800 rpm

but as there is SO much missinformation, maybe its time to clarify this...

its has been stated many times before that the blue L and blue M CDi's are NOT restricted...thats what i told the OP and was then told that i was wrong...which i dont think i am, i would like this clarified by someone who has more influence than i.

Yes but will be in 'default mode' and 10,000rpm limit. With a 10k resistor wired in or an 'M max' box (does the same job) unrestricts it and will then limit at 13,800rpm. Unlike the 'L' 14,500rpm (when unrestricted) or the 'M' 14.500rpm which is UK spec and has no speed restriction...as KwakKwak rightly says.

now there are some OEM or duplicate CDI with good quality. it can be a replacement.
