Engine cranks then all electrics go dead.

I pulled out the 1998 bike after some time at the back of the garage.
I put some fresh fuel in after fitting the tank and went to start. She cranks for on the starter for 10 seconds then all electrics go dead. Turn ignition off for 20 seconds and its all alive again, crank the starter again for 10 seconds and it happens all over again.

Any ideas?

Is the battery charged?
Have you checked all the fuses and contacts?
Does the starter motor get overly hot?
Where was it stored?
