oxford optimiser causing problems?
just wondering, can an oxford optimiser damage any of the charging/electric circuit on my zxr. i connect it to my zxr every time it is parked in garage to keep battery topped up but since i started using it the battery is going flat wen bike is out on a run. it does not always go flat, but will suddenly just not charge, even wen its been on a long run. did 80 miles last week in one run and then turned bike off, tried to restart it but it was totally flat.bike runs perfect once one of my mates as stopped moaning and gives me a push to bump start it. think this could be the regulator/rectifier? i am getting 13.5-14.5 volts at battery wen i checked it with bike running so could it be an intermittent fault? or the battery?or the alternater?

could be the hot starting problem, what about earth straps? could be loose or corroded.

similar problems i was having and my earth strap had corroded so a quick clean up with wire wool and all sorted.

Re: oxford optimiser causing problems?
the voltage you state sounds healthy, as long as its not an intermitten fault as you say. Does sound like its not getting/holding a charge though. How old is the battery.

Re: oxford optimiser causing problems?
battery is about 18 month old. just looked at it, optimiser says its charged and ok but wen i try to start bike it turns over for about 3 seconds and then shows a flat battery on volt meter. before i try and start it , battery shows 12.5 volts, but as soon as ignition is on, it starts to drop.wen i try and start it ,it drops to 10.5 volts straight away. think it must be battery as wen its running, charging voltage is 13.5-14.2 volts.

I would start with the battery. Cheapish and easy to replace.
