Oil Light
Hi guys, just put engine back in my zxr400, took it for a spin around the block and it seems fine. Next day, went out on it and the oil light has come on. The oil is topped up to the recommended amount so I don't know why this has just come on. I have though earlier today noticed that I do have a slight oil leak coming from the left side engine cover and was wondering if this would cause a lack of oil pressure and this has caused the light to come on. Any help would be gratefully received.

The oil light does not nesscessarly indicate that your oil level is low
The oil light is actiavted by a pressure switch on the right hand side of the engine.
If there is a drop in oil pressure below a pre set pressure the switch closes and the oil light comes on.
A small oil leak is unlikely to be the cause
It coulds just be that the switch is stuck.
Does the light come on when you first turn the ignition on befor starting the bike?
Is the wire conected to it properly? if this wire shorts to earth the light will come on and stay on
You can test the oil pressue by fitting a guage in place of the switch.
Worst case your oil pump is not working properly it's not a big job to replace it. It lives in behind the clutch
