Hi,
Can I take off the fork top while it is still on the bike without the internal springs shooting out?
I need to do a quick fix for a track day, i.e top the oil up on one of them due to leaky seal, I can get the repair done properly next week.
Cheers

Yes, when you unscrew the fork tops the fork upper should move freely.
The damper will hold everything else together.

Cheers, I have changed normal fork seals on Ninja 600, & XJ 600, but was unsure about the USD forks as there is a spring compression removal tool required.

Re: USD FORK TOPS
i doubt you will pass trackday inspection if the seal is leaking badly, plus do you really want it all over your front brakes and leaking on the track?
you need the compression tool if you want to fully disassemble the forks only. you will need some way to measure the air gap/amount of oil in the top of the fork tube, and its best if the forks are vertical for that...
