10w oil in forks too heavy?

Post by boostin »

Changed my fork oil on my 93 ZXR400 track bike. I got some 10w and put that in thinking it would be alright, not the rebound is noticeably slower, enough for me to think it is too slow.

Now I know the racers on here seem to use 7.5w oil. Should I change it to 7.5w or try 5w? Or just leave the 10w and see how it feels.

Thanks

sounds about right for 10w oil, 5w is OE for a reason

if you're quite heavy 7.5w may work (and you may have to mix equal parts of 5w and 10w to achieve it) but FWIW I raced on stock forks with 5w oil and the frontend was fine.. infact its the only bit of the bike that hasnt been since changed :)

I am only 8.5 stone though :)

Thanks Zimm.

I might take it back to 5w and go from there.

Right put some 5w in there. Now that its all back together it does seem a bit better I think... :smt017

Just one question, when pumping the rod up and down to clear the air, how slow/hard should the rod be to pull up, seems like mine are really slow...is this normal?

Thanks
