Front Wheel Removal

Post by Geffro »

Hi guys, removed my rear wheel with no trouble, but can't get my front wheel of as it seems to be a special tool required to get the spindle out, it looks like I need an inverted hex head opposed to a socket? Am I being a total idiot & missing something simple here? Cheers.

use a bolt with a couple of nuts on the end acting as locknuts and a spanner :smt003
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

or order them off the internet, places like tooled-up.com sell them. 14mm and 12mm i think (different on either side) but i'd have to check, give me a shout if you need me to.

This doesn't always work especially on an axle that been in place for months on end..................I made one for my ZX6 and welded the locking nut on...............even that broke.

So I bought one of these....................and I strongly recomend them.

This was the cheapest on ebay and the quaility while not Snap On is still very good.

I've not found one of these in the right size for the 400 but you can get hex key scockets in 3/8 and 1/2 drive sizes so you can use your ratchet

Two ways to do this.....................

A 14mm hex key will fit and remove the spindle itself leaving the "nut" in place. ( It's not a nut but it serves the same purpose)

A 12mm hex key will fit and remove the other end its not a nut but it serves the same purpose

You don't need both to get the spindle out just one or the other

Remember to slacken the pinch bolts on the side you are turning to remove .

It matters not which way you do it the wheel will come out.....................

Theres plenty of the hex keys either in scocket form or just as an allen key on ebay...............scocket is better cos you can torque it up properly with the scocket type when you put the wheel back in
