Zxr400 Valve clearances

Post by Graeme1198 »

Hi guys new to the forum.

Just doing a valve clearance check on my 1989 zxr400 that I’ve picked up recently. Had some very tight intake clearances.

But the issue I’m having is No2 Cylinder right side exhaust rocker guide will not slide across, it will move over 1-2mm then stop, all the rest have been fine to slide across with my little make shift tool. Anyone had this issue before?

Thanks in advance

If you are sure nothing is binding on the retaining spring or the valve spring then it's cams out time...
UK ZXR400 L3 (1993) - Fully restored and on the roads, my green beast!
JPN ZXR250 A2 (1990) - Revs to 19,200rpm... 'nuff said :smt003

That’s for the reply, the rocker spring will move across just not the rocker. It’s got a clearance of 0.25mm between the lobe and the rocker and it does start to slide off the valve shim but stops before getting off the end.

If all the others side across correctly when at the relevant points to check the clearances could it still be the cams out.
