cleaning oil strainer screen
How often do you need to clean the internal oil filter? Is it a good idea?

Just saw one on eBay and searched where it was in the engine and thought that everybody replaces the external oil filter but not the internal one, might take mine out during the rebuild just to see how bad it gets

Re: cleaning oil strainer screen
mine of the fzr had a fair bit of crap attached to it, but it was in no way enough to compromise the function of the oil pump, ive cleaned it as im doing the rebuild, but if not i would have picked some bits off it that were on the outside of the filter, and left it like that.
incidentally i got mine looking like this - the zxr one might be similar - the gauze at the front "is" detachable, it sort of clips onto the base.

Re: cleaning oil strainer screen
Nope that looks nothing like the internal oil pick up filter in a ZXR400.
From memory the internal filter is not mentioned in the routine service schedule .....................clean it if your ever in there. I'd have a look if you suspect internal damage of some kind that hasn't made itself evident elsewhere.

the zxr internal oil filter looks like a cone with a mesh on it, i couldnt remember if it was removable or not.
