Worn Cams From Knee Down

Post by mikeee »

Hi
Soo according to the garage i take my bike to have have worn cams on the left hand side (piston 1/2), the guy says that this is most likely occured from that side being starved of oil, so i asked him if getting my knee down a lot on the right hand side could cause this, and he said it's most likely, yes. just thought i'd share this, as its a new one to me, maybe its not true, i dunno. :)

Mike

possibly, well its booked in wednesday, as replacing cams is past my limited expertise. hopefully they'll sort it out and check the oil lines, having the carbs balanced aswell :)

again, possibly, although i do try to warm my bike up before i set off and keep the revs low for a bit, but then if it was due to not warming it up, would it not be that all the cams were worn not just piston 1/2??

oil flow goes from right to left so you're more likely to get it where you've got it

I'd be finding another garage. So he reckons that a motorcycle engine, which is designed to function properly at various inclinations to the horizontal whilst cornering (no rider on earth ever went round a corner with a bike bolt upright!), has chewed its cams because it has been run whilst inclined at a normal angle.

The bloke's either a complete tosser or a rip-off merchant.

i only mentioned this as, on a wednesday night we go down to a local roundabout which has a nice surface and isn't busy at all, be it a roundabout, i only go down on the right hand side and have been doing so for a few months, it was just a suggestion, probability is my oil pump is on its way out or so. :)
