welding engine

Post by monty0443 »

Possibly lining myself up for attack here but a quick question from a mong. Is it possible to weld a slight crack on an engine or are any of those metal bonding items any good.. nothing crucial as to the working but a tiny bit of the mounting bracket located under the exhaust ports is cracked. Just don't want it to get any worse and crack off, though if it was to it wouldn't be causing any instability just and eyesore.. it won't be affecting the stability just a small niggle for me.

cheers Monty

sorry, Just got my camera working... Dont know how to show the pictures directly but heres a link where I just uploaded them..

Hope this helps. Basically I cannot get the engine frame support off, due to the nut spinning as the engine piece is cracked and allowing the nut to spin. I could just take a hack saw and remove the housing part and just have the bot holding it rather than a hood esq piece.

Any thoughts?

looks like the cracked bit is just the bit of the casing that holds the nut to stop it spinning................I would see no problem in just removing that bit so that you can get a spanner on the nut.............you could then just leave it that way or get it repaired/welded

I was thinking of cutting the bolt at the rubber washer and pushing it through though it might be hard to source bolt and if cradles are out id be stuffed.. Should I do both sides even it up and file/sand it?

Thanks
