valve spring tolerances?

Post by jic44 »

Hi lads, Just doing some checks on the head in my race bike. the manual says the std free spring length is 38.2mm with a service limit of 36.4mm.mine are measuring between 37.41 and 37.28 so im wondering is it time to change them. engine is running a fairly hihgh spec making 76hp with high lift cams if that makes any difference. the budget for this year is very tight so i dont want to have to change them but if they are a risk ill have to skip a race and save the entry fee.

I wouldn't have thought so seeing as they are within spec. Why would you change something that is well within tolerance? If it was getting close to the limit then yeah, maybe change them to save any problems but these seem to have plenty of life left yet.
