My Bike: Kawasaki ZXR400 L9

engine change

hello, im about to buy a new (used) L9 engine for my L9 with a knackered engine,
is it easy to switch them? how do i go about doing this?

yes

you take the old engine out of the frame and put the new/replacement one in

fairly easy job shouldn't take more than an afternoon if it's your first time, everything you need to know is in the manual it's all straight forward and doesn't require any special tools, you might want to check the valve clearances on your new engine whilst it's out of the frame as it'll be easier

this post viewtopic.php?f=55&t=7671&p=61071&hilit ... val#p61071 should help, it's for fully stripping an engine down but you only need to follow the bit from taking off the rocker cover to removing the chain tensioner, also use the manual on the main part of this site aswell. your looking at about £100 in parts to replace all of the timing chain parts. you'll need a set of feeler gauges to measure the valve clearances and possibly a micrometer if you need to start measuring the shims
