Another Problem With Bike (possibly cam timing)...

Post by downin »

Hi guys.
Not been on here in a while, due to a useless friend taking months to fix my bike, so hello again to everyone.

Yeah, my mate took ages to replace the exhaust cam in my bike which was well n truely shagged.
Got the bike back the other day n ive been takin her out doin the toddle round town on it, no problems...

Took her out for a decent ride today...got to the bypass area of my town ( road to give it wigan on :smt002 ) and to my disappointment, bike would only rev out to 8,000rpm and then die off there after... and one point i managed to get her to 10,000rpm in 3rd gear for a short stretch..but then died off again.

Any ideas guys?... i was thinkin it cud be cam timing maybe?..or could it jus be the pure fact that its been sat for 4 months without being started?...needs a thorough ride out to clean it out?

Feedback would be really appreciated as i've locked the bike up until the better months kick in again, but if its something that needs replacing/fixing then ill drag her back out again to get her sorted so she's ready...if its just the case of a good ride out then ill wait. :smt001

Thanks people,

Downin.

Hi,

I can't really see it being the cam timing as you would feel it through the whole rev range. Possibly a blocked main jet? Give the carbs a good looking over as it's been sat for a while in the cold. Failing that, set the engine to top dead center and whip that rocker box cover off and check that the lines on the cams line up with the surface of the cylinder head.

Regards

Rich

Might wanna check the airbox is on properly too and that the bungs in the top of it are in place, could be sucking air like anything. Chuck some redex in the tank and ride it about for half hour, get it through the fuel system, might help sort any carb blockages.
