Loud knocking sound - 3rd gear, 4000rpm
Noticed a very audible knocking sound today. Only seem to get it at third gear (@ about 4k rpm) - if I keep the revs rising it disappears. Strange. Guessing this is not engine related? Chain? Gearbox? Anyone else experienced this?
I seriously hope it doesn't spell more time in the garage

Might just be the chain, check the tension on it

yeah as robB suggests could be slack in the chain knocking on the swinger.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

That'd make sense, I'll check the slack when I get up tomorrow. The knocking bluddy scared the shait outta me earlier - I thought the engine was going to seize
. what a muppet - heh.

Yup - a very very loose chain. Had been too busy to check the last few months. Anyway, ended up changing the oil, bringing the tyre pressures down a tad for some summer road...er...track racing, and topping up the coolant. Tis riding like a banshee out of hell...
