Trouble finding gears

Post by Jackson »

Hi guys, finally got the bike back together the weekend, engine sounds sweet as ever now :)

Problem now is i can only find first gear. It will drop into first and pull away all ok but when looking for any more it wil just go back into neutral. The bike has been standing for over 12 months so maybe somethings seized? or is there something else i should look out for?

Cheers

Hi,

yeah gearbox was fine last time the bike was used. It was then in a garage for over a year. I haven't touched the gearbox as yet, ive only had the head off the bike doing some work on the cams/ valves etc.

Weekend was first time ive actually tried to cycle through the gears, and could only get into first.

cheers

If the gearbox was previously fine and you've not touched it and it's been unused fro some time I'd guess that there is a problem with the netural finder.............two little ball bearings on the layshaft I think.

however do check that it's not just the gear lever being obstructed in some way

could also be the adjuster rod in the gear linkage that needs adjusting.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.
