Coolant Change

Post by f17th »

Heya Guys,

I changed the coolant on my bike today

Oh what a fun job that was, (just awkward trying to get the tank off)

Anyhow From the workshop manual it says that the rad and expansion tank should take 2.3L of fluid.
I'm pretty sure mine is topped up correctly but i didnt even get 2L of fluid in.

Just wondering whether this is right or have i done something wrong ?

On a seperate note,
I did notice that the expansion tank was blocked up with sh*t and had to poke something through the bottom hole, to clear it.
Would this have damaged the bike in anyway? Im not sure how long its been like that.

The reason it didnt take more was thats from bone dry to full, when drained out the engine will still have a small amount in it.

when you do go out for a ride, remember to check the level when you come back. there's bound to be a bit of air in the system that'll come around with some good bumps, so it might need topping up

Oh right so would i Check that from the Expansion tank under the seat or would i have to top it up again from the rad cap underneath the bloody fuel tank ?

Just such a pain to have to strip most of the bike down to do it.

I take its an H model then? Yes, top it up at the radiator cap and check the expansion bottle for good measure :)

Yeah its an old H model,

I take it from that comment they decided to put the rad cap somewhere a little more accesible on the L's
