Do I need to drop coolant to get to this??

Post by Smokingviper1 »

Hi zxr fam... looking for aome advice with the water pump.... I'm.wondering if its necessary to drop the coolant out to gain access to this seal highlighted on the picture attached... got oil coming past it and would be an easier job if didn't have to drop coolant put... many thanks

no you dont need to drop the coolant, as that seal is an oil seal, not a coolant seal

however the lines are pretty non-forgiving, so in the end you will probably find that its easier to drop the coolant (you can just disconnect the coolant line at the pump and let it all flow out), remove where both lines attach to the pump (as well as the metal hard line) and then remove the pump
