Temperature stuck thermostat modified

Hi my temperature gauge seems to be reading roughly 20 degrees constantly. My Zxr was converted to a race bike with ram air and the oil cooler radiator removed. I'm not too sure what they have done to the stat. I have tried to add a picture or two but it is saying file size too large, the picture is only just over 2mb, what is the easiest way for me to attach a photograph?

Thank You

Terence

I use Flickr, post my pics on there and then upload to here.

See if that works, if not I will send you my email and I will upload them for you

I've managed to find a website that can compress the file size so hopefully it has worked.

Here's the others if they help.

OK so that's not a standard radiator for the bike, and that looks like a temperature probe, not a thermostat?

That 2 pin bit on your last photo is a fan switch, so that's what monitors the rad temp and turns on your fan if needed... Which you dont as its been removed.

The thermostat is located underneath the carbs

That is fascinating! It looks like a temperature probe connected to the bottom right hand side of the radiator, but the amount of Araldite holding it in place is impressive. I assume that is a wire at the end of the assembly, so it would be interesting to know where it goes. I wouldn't be surprised if there was no thermostat fitted, hence the reason for a static reading of the temperature. I assume that there is no fan fitted on the basis that the bike will be started and warmed up just before a race, and then switched off at the conclusion. In between the air flow will cool the radiator. Please keep us informed!

Thanks guys that's interesting to find out it's a different radiator. I had a look under the carbs and I can see a screw in type sensor but it disappears into the loom. Yeh your right it is a wire that goes directly to the temperature gauge which also appears to be a different temperature gauge. This isn't really an issue to the bike running, only the fact that the gauge doesn't appear to be working so I can't monitor the radiator temperature. I've just contacted the manufacturer to see if there's anything that can be cleaned or if it needs a whole new unit. According to the website it is a mechanical gauge.

Is that a hollow tube then that's going from the rad to the temp gauge? Or is it an electrical wire?

I just checked yeah it's a capillary tube temperature gauge, definitely not standard and definitely worse than an electrical one.

I would say either a blockage of the capillary tube or a dead gauge. I have a zxr400 temperature gauge here that you can have for a tenner, it needs power, ground and a wire to that sensor on the left side of the engine that "dissappearus into the loom" that's under the carbs, that's your temperature probe.

If the gauge I have is not working then your issue is the bikes temperature probe, these are still available from kawasaki

Hey Banner sorry I didn't reply I didn't see your last post for some reason!? Do you still happen to have the original temperature gauge I could buy off you?

Thanks

Terence
