Winter gloves and fuel tap

So far I've gone 137 miles and looks like it will reach reserve at around 150 miles. In any case I tried to see if I can reach the fuel tap and having a hard time. I can reach it after some fiddling but can't turn it due to the gloves/plastic. I'm sure it will be easier with summer gloves but I haven't got a pair yet.

I've never been able to do it whilst on the bike.

Its a little tricky but can be done while still riding, had to do it a couple of times down the motorway

i wouldnt know which way to turn it whilst on the bike and wud probably turn it off!lol

Whats stopping you just riding it around on reserve the whole time, then simply filling after about 120ish miles? The whole 'reserve' thing seems a bit pointless to me

Well you can do that if you want but you could run the risk of running out of petrol and being stranded. The idea of the reserve is that when you run out of your normal tank then you have at least a little bit of fuel left to get you to the petrol station or home.

You just need to turn the tap all the way round. The off is the halfway point (on - off- res)

Yeah just like the above poster said...I'd also like to know exactly how many miles I'm getting before reserve. At least just one time. Dunno why they didn't make the tap easier to get at and use. I will have to ride around at 30 and see. Wish someone would make an aftermarket tap for it.

Iv got an SP seat unit, and the plastics dont hug upto the frame, they stop just before the fuel tap so its fully exposed. Never have any problems turning mine while riding

I can manage it whilst riding if i'm going fast enough, but it takes a while between turning it on and the engine picking up. Most of the time I just coast to an embaressing stop I'd much prefer a warning light to say you're running low, or just a fuel guage!

I've heard fuel gauges/lights aren't that reliable, especially since motorbike tanks are tiny compared to cars. Even so a warning of some sort would be nice.

No, the Reserve should point towards the front of the bike.

For Fuel On

Fuel On -----> Towards Front of bike
Fuel Off ----> Points down to the ground
Reserve ----> Towards Rear of bike

For Fuel Off

Fuel On -----> Points to the Sky
Fuel Off ----> Points towards Front of Bike
Reserve ----> Points down to the Ground

For Reserve On

Fuel On ----> Points towards Rear
Fuel Off ---> Points To the Sky
Reserve ---> Points towards the Front
