Cleaning carbs made a huge difference!

Post by Smousley1995 »

Well my bike had just started to get laggy on the throttle so I decided to clean the carbs.
This is a brilliant guide for cleaning them by the way - viewtopic.php?f=115&t=14018
Basically it made a huge difference, it's got a little more noticeable power and runs so much smoother than before.
I found this guy who had probably been in there quite a while!

My airbox had a snail sub letting.

Clean carbs, I like to think I'm making a big difference, my wife really likes them stored all round the house :smt003

Try sonication and then putting a full seal kit in them, was lovely afterwards!

I have a question about sonic cleaning.

The only thing you should be removing is the rubber components and leave everything else as is? I was reading that sonic cleaning will get into all the nicks and crannys but eats rubber parts etc.

is that true?

Yeah just everything rubber needs to come off, I'm not to sure about the plastic float but I'd take that out too.
Make sure you buy a new seal kit for after unless they were recently changed as disturbing the seals usually makes them leak if they're old!
And I'd strip the carbs down as much as they'll go so you get all the seals out and let the solution get absolutely everywhere!

ultrasonics wont do a thing to rubber or plastic...depending on the solvent used.

if they are using deionised water and/or detergent, then they will be fine, if they plan to use volatile hydrocarbon solvents i.e. ethanol, acetone, acn...then these will dissolve/damage your rubber/plastic components.
