My carb plate is slightly bent and has a small air leak.
I was thinking I could try putting another gasket on top so it would fill the exposed gap. Does anyone else think this could work?

Re: Carb plate bent
I assume it is the plate on the air side of the carbs to which the airbox attaches. This is shown on the airbox section of "microfiches". It clearly shows a rubber ring set in a groove, and a spigot on the airbox engages this item to achieve sealing. Thus there is no gasket, and another ring would not be able to sit on top to seal the gap that seems to exist. If a gasket was made, then it would just raise the airbox higher and still leave a gap. The screws holding the airbox to the plate cannot be tightened excessively to close the gap because they will just crush the plastic of the airbox. I am intrigued by: 1. How you know there is an air leak? 2. How the plate became warped/bent? It would be a tricky item to try and straighten, so the more suitable option would be to fit a second-hand one. If you are really desperate, and short on finances, then a bead of silicon sealant would do the job, although the petrol fumes may affect it. As with so many things in life - better to do the job properly.

the plastic of the airbox warps because people take the airbox off when it is hot, and as it cools it warps, if you need to take off a warm airbox, fit it to a spare set of carbs whilst it cools.

Re: Carb plate bent
Yes, it is the plate on the air side of the carbs to which the airbox attaches. My mechanic told me it was slightly bent and that air was leaking in, and the silicon seal that is already there is not really working. I have looked for a second hand plate but haven't had much luck and im struggling with money atm a bit. Assuming my mechanic was right and the plate is slightly bent, if i just put the replacement seal in, would much air be able to come through that it would make a difference to how well/bad it runs.
