Hi peeps,
Since this shitty weather has come to england my bike has been running like toad. Basically when I'm going down the gearbox from coming off an A or M road (slip road) when I come to a stop, the bike just dies. Also happens when coming to traffic lights. Everytime I come to a stop basically. I've turned to mixture screws from 3 to 2 1/2 and it's still doing it
SHe doesn't like to idle either, the only way I can get it to idle is to give it some revs then it will idle nicely again.
TBH i think It might be the battery because when I'm coming down the gearbox it sounds like the plugs aren't even sparking. Weak spark maybe due to fooked battery but I'm not 100% sure. mid range and top range seems to be fine. I adjusted the float heights to 11mm from 16mm (haven't touched the floats since I got the new engine.) Also splutters ALOT at 4k rpm. I've taken the crank breather pipe off and it's got blobs of water in it. The airbox is swimming in fuel possibly from the fuel spitting out the carbs? Since I've had this bike it's been nothing but hassle. I've recently replaced the inlet rubbers from the L2 to L3 the ones with the rubber O-Rings. They are done up nice and tight and as far as I know aren't leaking as they are such a better design then the L2 design.
Any ideas would be great as I'm ready to throw the bike in the biffa!
Regards
RIch

Re: Conking out on me :(
how are you measuring the float heights mate ?
dont think its possible to get a reading of 16mm if measured correctly, so its possible you've set them wrong ? which would make them uber rich and account for the 4k stuttering... and if they're much out it wont be possible to get a decent/consistent idle.
have a read here

is the rest of your bike stock ? needles/carbs/exhaust/etc ? i forget.

Re: Conking out on me :(
Hi,
That's exactly how I measured it, I emptied the carbs, put the carbs on it's side so the floats are just resting on the float valve then measured it from the gasket surface to the highest point of the float. They were on 16mm and the bike was running like toad, soon as I changed them to 11mm the bike now flys.
Standard airfilter and airbox,
Needles on top groove
92 main jets
2 1/2 on the mixture screws.
Sports can.
Regards
Rich

Re: Conking out on me :(
Best way to measure the float height, and easier, is as per the manual. Length of clear tube attached to the carb bowl drain tubes, undo the drainage screw so the tube fills up and then hold the tube up against the flat line thats on the right hand side of the carbs. If the fuel level in the tube is the same as that on the carb side then they are correct. If its higher or lower the manual tells you which way to bend the float tags for adjustment.

Hi,
FIXED!
Inlet rubbers leaking air on cylinder 1&4 gonna fix up 2&3 later just to be on the safe side. And the HT caps were VERY loose, so loose they just fell off in my hand.
