First ZXR 400 ride
On Friday I took my first bike out for a ride. I pulled off and the first thing I noticed was its hard to fit my legs in and change gear with my boots but it sounds nice. Anyway get to the main road and pull back the throttle to about 6000rpm which felt quite nippy. Its my first bike so anything will feel fast. I cruised round for a short while, just getting used to the handling. Then I took it to town down a dual carrigeway and got to 14000rpm for the fist time and just burst out laughing cos........I dont know why, just really happy that I got myself a zxr
. Been riding around alot over the weekend and I love it. The acceleration is so much more then I thought it would be, handling is great, just a little cramped but will get used to it. I can understand why they are so popular and good first bikes.

I still remember doing the same when I got mine! Pottered around a bit feeling it out, then onto the dual carriageway to open it out... I saw 135 on the clocks that first time, and think I got that same buzz every time I rode it after!

Re: First ZXR 400 ride
I used to think the same thing with my boots, too.
They are a little cramed for us over 6ft, but trust me, you soon get used to it.
I tend to sit a little further back on the seat, so when I am tucked in, my knees and thighs sit in nicely to the tank. (With toes on pegs)
Great little bikes. Hope you enjoy

Re: First ZXR 400 ride
boots were horrid to ride with to start with but after a few rides you'll get so used to them you wont want to ride in anything else.
As for first rides i dont think anyone will forget it...first time i went over 10,000 rpm my butt hole became the size of a pin prick and i giggled to myself for ages, the feeling has never got old!

Re: First ZXR 400 ride
Forgot to mention does anyone else's zxr make a whiney noise when dropping down into gear 1?
It doesnt seem to be causing any damage, was quite useful as a novice and not knowing what gear im in. Nice little reminder that I was back in gear 1

Hmm... there'll probably be a BIT of a whine from the drive train. First off, I'd recommend checking your chain slack - it may be a bit tight.86zxr01 wrote:Forgot to mention does anyone else's zxr make a whiney noise when dropping down into gear 1?It doesnt seem to be causing any damage, was quite useful as a novice and not knowing what gear im in. Re: First ZXR 400 ride
i remember entering a large roundabout at about 60mph, thought i was in 3rd....
slowed a bit as was about to lean over, knocked it down to what i thought was 2nd - but it was first!
whining noise? that was the least of my worries, the bike stood upright like a stallion horse that had just had its cock slapped!
didnt drop it mind, feckin close though
gem

Re: First ZXR 400 ride
Cheers Jamz I'll give that a check soon.
I'm sure there will be plenty of mistakes made by myself in the near future but. You guys are lucky the back wheel didnt lock up. I dont think I'll be entering roundabouts at 60mph anytime soon
. I still need to get some confidence while braking. I accelerate comftably but brake well to early for junctions, roundabouts. Im sure it will come to me after a few rides.

Re: First ZXR 400 ride
dont try and push yourself to go faster yet the first few months you really need to take your time and just put miles under your belt. You will start to get faster naturaly the more you ride, before you know it you'll be scraping your knee and wishing all these weekend R1 riders would get out your way.

The day i outrun an R1 is the day i have the right to brag about it for the rest of the yearrene wrote:before you know it you'll be scraping your knee and wishing all these weekend R1 riders would get out your way.
Hopefully i'll come across sumone whos only just bought an R1 and is too scared to go past 3rd
I really can't wait to get her out of the garage in summer, im gonna bring her out the first day jump on her and not stop riding for ours! Then a visit to the chiropractor
If it's broke spray it with WD40, if it's still broke spray it again and leave it over night, if it's still broke, bin it.

Re: First ZXR 400 ride
i covered somthing like 2,000 miles in the first week or so of riding my 400, just couldnt get enouth of it!
Get a R1 on a twisty back road were bullocks and rider skill is more important than power and you'll give them a very good run for there money
