Can somebody in words of no more than 5 letters tell me is this possible ?
Will it work? and can I see a simple esay to understand wiring diagram ?
The wiring diagram is there for you above, yes it does work as the bike is running and its in series the two red wires already going to the coils are the 12v feeds and the black and the green wires are the ones that drive the coils which you can get from the above diagram.
You can not run them in parrallel, it does not work, you would need to spend some time as mentioned with resistors etc.

Re: Stick coil modification - Boooootfiul
read the thread from the beginning there is quite a bit of info there. then ask ant questions you have. Im just doing some dwell testing at the moment and will keep you posted. but it will and does work yes. the question is will the coils burn out or is there enough charge time (dwell) with the standard CDI setup.....cheers

That was for the ZX6R onesmongo wrote:tk400 the stick coils are mitsubishis and the code on them is: F6T560 5222
The zx12r ones are: F6T553 0515 these are too tall though IMO, i havent fitted them yet and tried the airbox, but have a feeling you may have to shave off a tiny amount of the plastic airbox to get them to fit.

Re: Stick coil modification - Boooootfiul
Has this conversion been completed now?
My ignition has packed up and am looking at alternatives. I was thinking the Ignitech box was the way to go and rememberd this thread, so was considering the 4 channel box if this stick coil conversion has been succesfully completed.
Any updates/information would be much appreciated. Ta

Re: Stick coil modification - Boooootfiul
I ran ZX6R (B1H) sticks in my race bike last weekend and am well happy with the results. I wired them up in series as per the diagram in this thread and it worked out very neat. Ran well in 1 and 3/4 races (unrelated gearbox explosion). It seems to pull much more smooth and strong from 8K, which is as low as I would ever let it run in a race. Overall I'm very happy and it will make using an Ignitech unit easier later in the year. For sheer neatness it can't be beaten.

Re: Stick coil modification - Boooootfiul
So are they wired in using the low tension push on wires which normally connect to the back of the coil ? Any chance of a more comprehensive diagramm for us thickies?

My engine is in bits at the moment but when its back in I'll pop up a photo - it uses the LT leads as you say. Pretty simple to do - I had the loom off the ZX6 so just hacked a soldered it about a bit.

Re: Stick coil modification - Boooootfiul
Thanks for the info. If I undrestand it correctly you wire two stick coils together as per earlier diagramme and connect the wires from one of the existing coils to the two wires from the stick coils, and same for the second set of coils?

Re: Stick coil modification - Boooootfiul
The bike that i have with this on it is up for sale just now, so im not really in the mood for taking it apart. However my project zxr 400 is going to have this done on it also, i already have the parts, so i will take some photos when im in the process of the wiring up the loom to the stick coil loom and what wires go where.parby81 wrote:we got any more pics and in depth wiring pics going on with this yet as i am very tempted!!
However you can figure it out from the diagram that i already posted.

Great conversion. I will be looking into this one. Stick coils are only $30 a set on Ebay. I bet the wiring will be more expensive.
