Re: slipper clutches?
all L's have them, H's dont..
without getting into describing them in detail, if yours look different to each other, one is and one isnt.

Re: slipper clutches?
pics,

thats not a slipper clutch, the font bit (second pic) is the most obvious visual difference.
they use the same plates, but have different amounts of them.. cant remember which has more.

Re: slipper clutches?
they dont really do anything except rattle anyway.
least not "out of the box"
thinner steels + spacers + trial and error is the way forward..
you'll know it works when you cant bumpstart it
which means you need to leave on (or refit?) the starter ..

Re: slipper clutches?
Both bikes still have starters though i have some light weight kit to run without them. Depends what track i run at, the dry bike is making 76hp with the starter so i'm happy with that just now.
I've got spare clutch pack for both bikes so will have a play around.
Got loads of road kit too that i'll list up for sale as i wont be needing lights etc...

i thought slipper clutches prevented the bike locking up when changing down gear?zimm wrote:all L's have them, H's dont..
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

It controls it locking up rather than stopping it all together, it allows the rear wheel to run at a slow speed rather than stopping altogether.
If you take a look at some videos of supermoto you can see the wheel still spinning and laying down some major rubber. Its chatter that comes without the slipper, gripping and then bouncing lots and lots of times till the wheel and engine speed catches up.

yup, it depends how "tight" they are set, as to how much slip they allow. My L4 (with kbatl) would still lock up and chatter..
