I think my mechanic has alzhiemers?

Post by Brett »

Got my bike back yesterday from another stint at the mechanics. He is generally very good, he has lots of classics and races his own bikes, BUT, he often forgets or does some very odd things.
I went to ride my bike and it wouldn't rev when the clutch was out? Also I couldn't find neutral? He picked it back up and said rather sheepishly that he set the gears up for racing(apparently the other way up i.e.1 up 4 down?)
Is this how the gears are set for racing?

yes, 1 up then the remainder of the gears down.

i think they have it like this so that when they are banked over and comin out of a turn and startin to accelerate, its easier to push the lever down to change up, instead of tryin to hook your toe under lever to shift upwards

im sure the racers on here will correct me if im wrong,

but my mate who used to race bikes couldnt get on with that way so had a road setup

yeh, its as you said.. when banked over hard left you dont always have enough room to get your toe under the lever ... i tried it once and just didnt like it.

thats the thing i love about bikes, you think thigs are hard to do but if you work the balls up to do it you get surprised how easy things are, specially if you have the tools.
