I'm Down.

Post by Scott221 »

I had quite a big off yesterday but very luckily only came out with cuts and bruises.

It happend on a nasty corner on quite a dangerous road, we were coming down the other side of a hill and a mate had dissapeard into the distance, I overtook a car at the top of a hill then coming down the other side towards this 180 degree banked corner. Get on the brakes and the rear end immeditaley locks, at that point I was a passenger. I slide for a good 15ft where I went side on into a raised curb, the bike stopped dead and threw me off highside style. I narrowly missed the sharp turn signs and poles that hold them up. Lukily, somone had already taken out the signs, it was obvious that somone had done exactly the same thing I had as there were black lines all over the road, and also a spare bike in parts at the side of the verge, litterally. It was wierd though, I actually had time to think as I watched the curb get closer and closer, first thing i thought was "I bet this looks cool" as I'm trying to back it in and get round the corner, but downward slope on gravel laiden newly surfaced road, couldn't of picked a worst spot, I was either gonna lowside it or do what I did. Luckily aswell there was nothing coming the other way, as that corner is totally blind.

You can clearly see here the two black lines, one is mine and the other looks pretty recent.

Ouch!
There's a corner almost identical to that on the A18. It even has the skidmarks, one left by my good self, althoughI was lucky enough not to end up on the grass.

Bugger... I think you should have a very close look at those forks...

I was in and around the Lake district yesterday with a mate from Yorkshire, we did the cat and fiddle, snake pass being silly n all. But the Ironic bit was that this happend on our way back to his house, being sensible, for once. The car is just a rolling chasis with body work on atm, he builds these kit cars and has one in the garage, its fuckin mint.

Ouch, that looked pretty nasty. I'm surprised and pleased you and your bike came out ok. In fact your bike still looks in better condition than mine!

Well done to get to the other side! Had a similar crash except there was no concrete curb, just grassy banking wich led down into he river medway! And i did exactly the same think as i went flying backwards, its like a time warp, you have to think about things, i though 'this is gonna hurt'. Luckily i landed on my feet, did a backwards rolly polly and rolled upto my feet again. If only there was a camera that woulda earned me £250!

Bike doesnt look too messed up really! Get the fork straightened and a new foot rest and its good to go!

glad your ok, i'm just stuck wondering why you were using the rear brake though? and why didnt you just take your foot off it as soon as the back wheel squirmed? i'm sure you probably asked yourself these questions while you were watching the curb creep closer but i'm genuinely interested in what you may or may not have done to avoid losing control when you first felt it go.

The trouble with having an open mind, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.
