Silly Question New Rider

Post by Cmcada »

So I've finally got my ZXR together and on the road.

I've been riding for 3 years now on a wee YBR125 and getting along well with it.

Moving onto the ZXR has been a shock to the system. I started riding it on shot 4 year old square rubber, this week I changed out the tyres for a set of maxxis supersports.

Now here comes the silly question!

I've clocked 300 miles on the new rubber and I cannot get used to the way it corners, the lightest touch on the bars throws the bike way over which is great however it feels totally unstable there is a lot of play in the front wheel when cornering at low speed.

If I take a corner at say 20mph, on my 125 the front wheel holds steady, on this the slightest adjustment to lean angle wobbles the front end unless I'm running over 50/60mph.

I have no faith in the grip of this thing, I don't get any feeling of grip levels, it just feels like it could wash out at any moment.

Is this normal?

Any ideas how i can gain some confidence on this piece of art?

Thanks in advance

What size tyres you put on ?

What PSI is in them - go check

It should feel like it's on rails unless you or some one has dropped the forks to make it turn in quicker

I took it to a friend of mine who runs a small race team today, been messing about with it all day.

A combination of headbearings, missing wheel weight, pressures and preload apparantly.

Handles like a dream now! Really confidence inspiring.

Time to learn how to ride the bloody thing :)

If you ride it through the winter, you will be awesome in the summer.
