A friend in Okinawa said they were all fine and only got an 11" tsunami.

Not sure where Mori-Man is? ***Edit it's Tsukuba-shi, so think they got hit pretty hard, although it is inland...

My thoughts go out to all those who are affected. :smt009

Japanese government is appealing to those who face difficulty to go home in capital region, that you may have trouble to find information, food, water, toilet and etc. on the way home on foot, so it is wise to stay safer place such as your work place.

Local authorities have started to set up refuge and temporary asylum on your way home. Please find those facility near you and do not hesitate to use them, if necessary.

It is also reported that phone service is overloaded. Too much calls are made to Tohoku and Kanto area. Please be aware that currently control is applied on phone call. Public phone of NTT Higashi Nippon is free to use at the moment.""

My friend lives in Ichikawa and was out on his bicycle when the quake struck he's shaken but ok
His wife was visiting her dad in a care home and had to cover him with a matress to protect him from falling ceiling.

They are home now and are well

As for MM he has not been on here for over 24 hours now..............it could just be that he has no internet

But the pictures from Japan are frightening I hope he is OK

I've tried to find a phone number for him without success

Yeah we can all breath out! :smt001

"Hey All, thanks for your well wishes. I was caught by the 1st one out at the lakeside , had parked up the bike to take some photos, just got back to bike when the 1st big one hit. Have a fella over from the UK and the two of us managed to keep it toppling - havent felt my knees knock so hard ! We then headed along through the local villages and saw the damage, with everyone out on the roads I knew it had been a bad one. We entered Tsuchuira city where the drains had erupted and I rode through 6" of effluent on the roads !! Nearer the city centre damage was evident and power lines were down. No aftershocks being felt I made for the city bypass , got past the s bends and now looking down on the city, the back end slid - was it the mud on thetyres? No, 2nd big one hit , as I thought with a tank slapper managed to stop the bike and we both got odd and pinned it down. The bypass was rockin & a rollin and thinking I am in a bad place! The aftershocks kicked in and we prepaired ourselves. Below street lights had collapsed and windows were shaking, 3rd quake hit and my knees wobbled again maybe my sphinctre too !!! :-O What would have been a 25min journey took over 2hrs to get back home. Got home and the flat is trashed - clean up next couple of days, power, gas, water and phone all knocked out city wide, most of Ibaraki in same situation :-( Finally power came back up at 3.12am but was exhausted! We have ben experiencing quakes nearly every 30mins , trains are still not operating to Tokyo, highway is closed. Driving Martin to another region to get him on a train back to Tokyo - he flies out tomorrow, I have requested space in his suitcase ! :-O We count our lucky stars - whole villages are gone, the images here are beyond belief and the national emergency service has been activated, a state of nuclear emergency has also been issued as two reactors face problems! Man alive I wish the rocket in the local park was operational - I would have my ticket already! Mifgt be afew days before I post up again but we are all safe here, an inemint 7+ is expected so we are prepairing for it. Thank you again for your thoughts Akiko, Drew & Martin."
