Deviant, you got any more info on it? How hard is it to make it fit?

Is that the unit?
mine's not the same as that, think it might be a slightly earlier (or later) model. It has different vents.

It dropped straight on with the rear half of the subframe removed, however:

a) It took some serious dremel action to be able to get the original seat back on, and there's now some pretty big gaps around the seat. In the short term this doesn't matter for me as it's only a trackday fairing. I have a long term plan but it will involve a bit of work to make it look good.

b) With no rear subframe there's no lights or numberplate. again no problem for trackdays. Again I have a plan to rectify this and make it road legal because I do like how it looks on the bike. However again it involves some work.

c) At the minute mine is held on with cable ties. again this isn't a short term problem for me, and again I will do it properly eventually.

At some point I'll try and start a build thread for this, detailing what I've done so far and what I intend to do. I've got loads of photos too. I'm not trying to put you off, but getting it to look good will involve some work with fibreglass, some electrics, and a lot of time.

In sorting mine out I will be making moulds, so I may be able to knock out a couple when I'm happy with it. However I make no promises about when that will be.

i think they just bring the back end of the zxr into the 21st century. the only thing on the ZXR that looks dated in my opinion is the rear but it still looks gooood

I agree entirely, I love the look of the front end of the bike, but it's amazing what a more recent seat unit does to the rear.

indeed, you see some people really mess it up with the seat unit, something that doesnt suit the rest of the bike at all. Then there are some such as the one in that listing and yours deviant that really set it off and really does do the bike some justice.

personally i think the undertray with shotgun lights is pants, but could be made to look good by swapping the lenses for these.

I agree with you baz, hate the shotgun look but love those LED's. They look fantastic on R1's.

One of my friends has an '89 CBR 400 RR, and he's used that seat unit on his, it does look awesome on that, that much I can vouch for. Mind you, his bike is a bit of a hybrid, as it's got an R6 nosecone on it to, and panels fabricated to couple the original fairings with the nosecone...

youll never guess who's bike this is?

Its boonie's, got an email from him as i asked about the seat unit. Only just clicked about the user name!
The seat unit is from a CBR600RR. The rear subframe doesn't need altering but the seat unit needs a little shaping to fit around the tank as the ZXR is quite round and the CBR is a bit squared off. The model ZXR's have 2 sections to the rear subframe and I'm only using the front section. Ian.
Told him if he changes his mind about selling come say hi at zxrwrold.co.uk
Hi Rob. Already a member. Just don't have the time to log on these days. Say hi to Baz and the rest for me.
