Civic Type R...

Post by wonderpupp »

I was wonderingggggg if anyone has had a bit of an off-the-lights drag up against an Type R Civic (02-05 type plate) and if the car is as quick as a ZXR400 / ER6N / ZX6R or any bike? Or just quick-car slow...

I know it was close with my brother's Evo 6 and my ZXR400 when we used to go out and play.

There's a guy at work with his type R peeny extension (I like the car, just not what he's done to it) who insists my new ER6 is a hairdryer, and would like a little race to show me so. (not head to head, but like a time trial thing, on a track, of course, officer)
Which is fair enough. I have taken a rain check on it, as I am running it in still and I do want to test it out proper - but it got me thinking: How Quick is the type R? I know what it says on paper, but what about for real?

The other guys at work would also like me to race him, if only to put him down a peg, cos he's a poser who's not very nice. And to see him beaten by a girl on a "hairdryer". Which is good to know they have faith in me and my mental riding...

going bk a year or so ago i had a lil peugeot 205 1.9gti, went like a rocket and handled like a go kart, was about 3 inches off the floor and had been boy wandered up a bit, well i was on my way down to see my mates on the south coast and was going along a dual carriageway that has a lot of sharp windy bends, all of a sudden a :wanker in a 07 plate civic type r got up my butt, and went past me, i thought bullocks to this and dropped it down a few gears and was soon right behind him, i tell you what he was caning that civic and couldnt get away from me,this went on for about 3 miles lol, pulled up at the round about next to him and laughed, he wouldnt even look, must have felt like a right mug that he couldnt get away from a 20 yr old car! i hate them civics anyway and dont think there all that, they handle pretty well though, im not sure how quick youre bike is so i cant say, give him a half mile race or summin

off the lights you'll have it but after 85 odd its going to pull past you.

Deepending on distance you should have it up to 3/4 of mile

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought.

I had a 309gti before, it was fun. I imagine that 205 (same engine, right?) would be a permanent grin.

2nd that. Up to a bout 100 a type R won't outrun you, nor will an evo6 i wouldn't have thought, Theres a VII round me thats been chavved out (dustbin exhaust jobbie!!) and as long as you stay in the power band it won't keep up. After that its anyones guess.

As for a track type race it really depends on the driver/rider

This is a type R v a cbr1000, obviously these two can handle the machines better than your average, but if you can outbrake him (easy) and outaccelerate him (likely) then shouldn't be too hard. Just be careful, he's clearly a prick lol. Not worth losing ure license, or worse, just to prove a point.

And if you do lose just point out that those extra few seconds round a track coz him about an extra £20,000!!!

Back when they first came out I had a lovely play with one of the new Civics on my ZXR400 on twisty roads going down to Hereford! So that was probably 2002...

He was pulling out a bit on me which I'm sure was entirely down to local knowledge of the road whereas I'd never been there before - he was no problem at all on the straights.

From modern knowledge and my mate owning one, I suspect overall a Type R would get around teh corners faster if both vehicles where approaching the limits, because they're grippy little buggers. But he'd have to be a good driver on a road he knows very well or the bike would do it every time.

From what Tiff says in the clip Jeppo linked to, the earlier Civics were a lot more twitchy than the later ones like my mate has...
